Mervo students return to the National KidWind competition!
Mervo Students took home top honors at the KidWind Regional tournament in Maryland and traveled to Nationals in Minneapolis St. Paul. For the second year in a row, seniors Rayvon King, Pablo Rosales Osario, and Andre Simons won first place at the state championships by building a wind turbine that produced the most energy. Juniors Ezekiel White and Hassan Murray won second place, also qualifying for Nationals. Students traveled with their engineering teachers Mr. Brelsford and Mr. Kerr to Minnesota to compete in the Kidwind world Championships. KidWind is an organization that has been educating students about renewable energy for 20 years. Students also had the opportunity to visit a working turbine the campus of Carleton College, go to a Twins game, and even get on the ice and learn some curling at the historic St. Paul Curling Club.
The trip had many sponsors including, The Kerr Team at Union Preferred Realty, Baltimore Gas and Electric, University of Maryland, and Baltimore CIty Public Schools.
The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on design celebration that engages students through the lens of wind energy. Student teams design, construct, and test small scale wind turbines and solar at events all over the world.
